Originally the home of Theodore Wickwire, this structure has become a home for groups of SUNY Cortland students. Damage to the grand staircase rendered many of the balusters in need of replacement. I was able to reproduce over 30 balusters using the original profiles to seamlessly restore the staircase's original character.
This original profile design was created using cues from the homes original historic details.
I was commissioned by a local painting contractor to reproduce this corbel when they found that the original was beyond repair. It was a pleasure having the original to dissect. In turn, I learned and used the construction method from over 100 years ago.
Using the original (Left) I was able to create new roof rail posts for an Historic home on Main Street in Homer, NY. The variation in color of the reproduction turnings is due to the difference in materials. The homeowner had stock that he had saved from previous work done on the home. I was able to use this for the new turnings. A satisfying cycle of material use.
