This was one of my first 3D Sign Commissions, though I had done some carving for my own personal art pieces in the past. This sign is comprised of a barn loft door that I harvested from a barn in Locke, NY. The letters and hops are made of solid Cedar and are hand cut and carved. I custom matched paint to Homer Hops' logo, hand painted each piece and sealed the entire sign with an exterior grade polyurethane.
As Homer Hops grew, they needed a larger sign along side their parking lot on Rt, 90. This double sided 4 foot x 8 foot sign is also hand carved and painted. I used High Density Urethane (HDU) with a wood core to make the sign rigid enough to support its own size. Custom aluminium channel, bracketry and solid vinyl moldings really came together nicely. Check out Homer Hops website HERE. It is an incredible brewery!
I am so thankful to have been commissioned to create this sign to mark the beginning of the Gee Whiz Rail Trail in McGraw, NY. Hand carved, hand painted High Density Urethane (HDU).
I had a lot of fun creating this sign out of salvaged materials. I had saved the heavy steel roofing for years because of it's patina. I cut and riveted three sections of roofing together to create the circle. For the lettering, I cut all of the letters out of an aluminum street sign using my bandsaw and them riveted them in place. I made a steel frame for rigidity, and mounted it on the front of the building using a custom bracket. Check out Owego Street Makery to book it as the venue for your next party or event!
I created this sign to reside above my lumber racks at, then, Owego Street Makery in the event space. it is now hung in my woodshop. Signs like this are really fun to create. This is reclaimed wood, paint and finished with more than a few faux aging techniques.
My favorite style of advertising art is using reclaimed architectural elements and adding typography that combine to create a feeling. This should strike quite a few heart strings if you've ever watched "It's A Wonderful Life". The arch top window I used is from the original fire house in Homer, NY on James Street. The lettering is applied and distressed vinyl lettering.
I created this for a client who has a golf simulator in their home. I've had the pleasure of hitting a few balls there and the name is fitting!
This is a case where sign and restoration services met! I guided my daughter through the restoration of this sign as a community service project. She did an amazing job! If you havent visted the treasure that IS Phillips Free Library, take the time to stop in and check it out.
I was commissioned by the owner of Upstream Construction to make a stamp that could be built into their concrete forms, leaving their mark, and date in the work they do. I've since changed the 2 to a 3, and the stamp has held up through many pours. This was a fun challenging request! The top image is what it really looks like. The bottom is a mirrored image, showing what the stamp leaves in the concrete.
I was inspired to make this sign for my own collection after watching the movie "World's Fastest Indian" starring Sir Anthony Hopkins. The sign is made of band sawn letters and a hand carved car with driver. Hand painted and distressed, this piece looks like it might have been in the desert for years. It's one of my favorites.
I created this sign in memory of my grandfather who used to own and operate the Sinclair Gas station in Brooktondale NY. I'm especially happy with how the finishes on this sign came together to give it faux weathering. A mix of paints, stains, sanding and a crackle finish and glaze give this new sign instant historic character. Read more about the sign and the station's history here and check out more images of the sign here.
